What this policy covers
This policy covers the NeatTake website, browser Studio, desktop app, account connection, support, and purchase records we receive. The payment provider identified at checkout has its own privacy policy for the data it processes directly.
Information we collect
- Account information, such as your name, email address, profile details, authentication identifiers, and session information when you sign in with Google.
- Synced NeatTake preferences associated with your account and short-lived authorization data used to connect the desktop app.
- Account-backed activation and access timestamps used to start and verify the seven-day desktop trial and any associated license status.
- Support messages and any files or diagnostic information you choose to send to us.
- Purchase, license, tax, and transaction details received from the checkout provider. We do not receive or store your full card number.
- Basic request and security data processed by our hosting providers, such as IP address, browser or device information, requested pages, and timestamps.
Your recordings stay on your Mac
NeatTake records and stores project media locally on your Mac. The app does not upload your recordings or project media to our website or account service. We only receive media if you deliberately send it to support or use a future sharing feature that clearly says it uploads.
Browser Studio also processes imported media and recordings locally in your browser. Enabling product analytics does not upload that media, captions, cursor activity, or the contents of your project.
Recording permissions
Recording access and analytics permission are separate choices. On macOS, NeatTake requests the permissions needed for these features:
- Screen Recording captures the screen or window you choose and system audio when enabled.
- Input Monitoring captures cursor movement, clicks, scrolling, typing activity, and key labels during a recording for cursor effects, auto-zoom, and keystroke overlays. This activity stays in your local project and is not sent to PostHog.
- Microphone access records the microphone you select when enabled. Camera access records your camera when you enable it. Neither is needed for a screen-only recording.
Manage desktop access in macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security. Browser Studio uses your browser’s screen-sharing, microphone, and camera prompts for the sources you choose; manage that access in your browser’s site settings. Revoking access may prevent the related recording feature from working, but does not change your analytics choice.
Optional product analytics
With your permission, we use PostHog to understand which features people use and improve NeatTake. We collect only these usage events:
- Website: visits to supported pages, download clicks, successful waitlist joins, and opening checkout or the billing portal.
- Browser Studio: starting a media import, recording, or export. These events describe starting an action, not whether it finished.
- Desktop: sign-in and successfully completed recordings and exports.
Events include the event type and time, whether you used the website or desktop app, a supported page label where relevant, and anonymous browser, device, or session identifiers. They may include the analytics library version. After sign-in, your NeatTake account ID can link usage across the website and desktop app if you have allowed analytics on both. We do not send your name or email address to PostHog.
We do not send recordings, audio, camera footage, captions, filenames, file paths, project contents, cursor or key activity, authentication tokens, form contents, or full page URLs and query strings to PostHog. Session replay, automatic click and content capture, and automatic error and log capture are disabled. Geolocation enrichment is disabled; PostHog still receives network requests from your IP address to deliver the analytics service.
Analytics is off until you allow it. Website and desktop choices are separate: use Analytics preferences on the website or Share usage analytics in desktop General settings. Turn either off anytime to stop new usage collection. Each browser and Mac stores its own choice. Declining does not prevent recording, editing, exporting, or using your account. The website also honors Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.
Turning analytics off does not delete events already received, and desktop events queued while analytics was enabled may finish sending. PostHog processes events in the region configured for that deployment; our current staging project uses US hosting. Contact us to request deletion of previously collected account data.
Desktop reliability diagnostics
The desktop app automatically logs startup failures, renderer crashes, and successful window recovery, and sends these technical events to PostHog. Reliability reporting is always enabled and is separate from optional usage analytics. Turning usage analytics off does not stop reliability reports.
Reports include the event and time, app version, platform, architecture, a controlled error type or crash reason, and an anonymous identifier that changes each time the app launches. They are not linked to your account or usage analytics. We do not send raw error messages, stack traces, recordings, filenames, paths, project contents, or credentials in these reports. Geolocation enrichment and person profiles are disabled; PostHog receives your IP address when delivering the service.
Local diagnostic logs retain limited lifecycle and redacted failure details, including while offline. The app keeps a current log and one rotated log of approximately 1 MB each. Remote reporting requires an internet connection; the app remains usable if delivery fails.
How we use information
- Provide sign-in, account connection, and preference sync.
- Start and verify the account-backed seven-day trial and license access.
- Deliver purchases, licenses, updates, and customer support.
- Protect the service, prevent fraud, and diagnose failures.
- Meet tax, accounting, legal, and payment-network obligations.
- Improve NeatTake using product feedback you choose to provide.
- Understand feature usage when you choose to share analytics.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who processes information
We use service providers for hosting, authentication, cloud data storage, email, and payment processing. PostHog processes the optional usage events and desktop reliability diagnostics described above. Google processes information when you use Google sign-in. If purchases are enabled, the provider shown at checkout —such as Stripe or Polar—processes payment and billing information under its own terms.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer. Service providers may only use information to perform services for us or as otherwise described in their own notices.
Cookies and similar technology
We use essential technology for sign-in, session security, and core site operation. Optional PostHog analytics uses local browser storage only after you allow it. We do not use advertising cookies. Read our Cookie Policy for details.
Retention and security
We keep account and preference data while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Purchase and support records may be kept longer for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, dispute, and legal obligations. Abandoned desktop authorization grants expire quickly.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no system can guarantee absolute security. Keep your device and account credentials secure and contact us if you believe your account has been compromised.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You may also withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing.
To make a request, email support@neattake.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing it.
International use and children
Our providers may process information in countries other than yours. We use the protections required for those transfers where applicable. NeatTake is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as NeatTake changes. We will post the revised version here and update the effective date. Questions can be sent to support@neattake.com.
